On the Center Lawn

Be transported through powerful stories, music, laughter, and tradition with acclaimed storytelling duo The Storycrafters, Barry Marshall and Jeri Burns, followed by an inspiring performance of classical music by gifted students from Meadowmount School of Music.

The Storycrafters 6 - 7 PM

Barry Marshall, and Jeri Burns PhD have been working together as The Storycrafters since 1991. In addition to being internationally renowned storytellers, they are authors, award-winning radio show hosts, recording artists, adjunct college faculty, communications coaches, and Public Radio essayists.

They perform and teach their art form in schools, libraries, and other venues all over the US, Caribbean, and the British Isles. With a natural, energetic style, they have been featured performers at storytelling and folk festivals nationally and internationally. Jeri and Barry believe in the time-tested wisdom of traditional stories and fairy tales, and share that wisdom with today’s audiences. They strive to honor world cultures by telling the old stories in respectful ways, often integrating the musical instruments, songs or dances indigenous to that region. They are also well-known for original modern renditions of the oldest stories, using styles such as spoonerism, rap and balladry generously sprinkled with a dose of rollicking fun, poignancy and pizzazz… some of their most requested material. In addition to their work as performers, Jeri and Barry also hold positions as adjunct college faculty (SUNY New Paltz, Southern CT State University), therapeutic storytellers (Stamford CT Hospital psychiatric unit), and trainers of public defenders (New York State Defenders’ Institute, Troy NY).

Classical Music

We are pleased to continue our annual tradition of presenting the amazing young musicians from the famed Meadowmount School of Music. It seems that every year these emerging artists present a performance even more beautiful and impressive than the previous year!

Founded in 1944 by legendary violin teacher Ivan Galamian, the Meadowmount School of Music is a seven-week summer program for violinists, violists, and cellists. Musicians ages 10 to 30 from around the world gather at the school’s campus in the Adirondack Mountains in northern New York to immerse themselves in an environment where they can focus on personal and artistic development through intensive training with leading faculty, individual practice, chamber music, and performance opportunities.

Meadowmount has long been regarded as the premier destination for young musicians and has helped create some of the greatest artists of our time. Meadowmount alumni are well represented internationally among soloists and chamber musicians, principal players of leading orchestras, and distinguished teachers. Notable alumni include Itzhak Perlman, Yo-Yo Ma, Pinchas Zukerman, Kyung-Wha Chung, Lynn Harrell, Joshua Bell, Jaime Laredo, James Ehnes, and Ani and Ida Kavafian, among others.
